Our Beliefs
.) The Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God. It is the final source of authority in matters of faith, principle, and practice (2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Pet 1:21).
.) There is one, and only one, living and true God. He has revealed Himself as a Trinity in unit: Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three persons and yet but one God (Deut 6:4; Mat 28:19).
.) Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, which is to say, He is Himself God (Col 1:15,19; 2:9). He became flesh, being born of the virgin Mary (John 1:14; Mat 1:18-25). He died upon the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sin of the world (1Pet 2:24). He arose from the dead in the body in which He was crucified (Luke 24). He ascended into heaven in that body glorified, where He is now our interceding High Priest (Acts 1:9; 1 John 2:1-2; Heb 4:14-16). He will come again personally and visibly for His Church (Acts 1:11; 1Thes 4:16-18), and to set up His kingdom, and to judge the living and the dead (Mat 25:31-46; Rev 11:15-17; 20:4-6, 11-15).
.) The Holy Spirit is a person (John 16:12-15). He is in the world to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and judgment (John 16:7-11). He indwells those who have received Jesus Christ as Savior, in order that they may live godly lives (Rom 8:9; 1Cor 6:19-20; Eph 5:18; Gal 5:22-23).
.) Man was created in the likeness and image of God (Gen 1:26-27). He fell (Gen 3) and therefore is totally depraved, born with a sinful nature (Ps 51:5), and upon reaching moral responsibility, becomes a sinner in thought, word and deed (Rom 3:9-20). If the does not repent and receive Jesus Christ, he is eternally lost (Luke 13:3; John 1:12; John 3:16-18, 36; 2Thes 1:7-10).
.) Salvation is by grace (Eph 2:8-9), through faith in the sacrificial death and blood atonement of Jesus Christ (Rom3:25; Eph 1:7). By exercising his will in believing, a man is born again (John 1:12-13; 3:16). Without this new birth, no man can enter the kingdom of God (John 3;3).
.) Both the just and the unjust shall be raised bodily (Acts 24:15). Heaven is the eternal home of bliss and glory for all who, through faith, have been made righteous before God (John 14:1-3; Rev 21:1-5). Hell is the place where those who have not been born again shall suffer eternal conscious punishment (Rev 14:9-11; 20:14-15: 21:8).
.) The true Church is composed of believers born again by the Spirit of God and baptized by Him into the body of Christ (John 1:12-13). Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church (Col 1:18). The local church is a group of believers meeting together in one place for the fulfillment of Christ's commission on earth (Acts 1:8; 2:1, 14-17; Mat 28:19-20).
.) The ordinances imposed upon the Christian Church by the Lord Jesus Christ are baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is an outward testimony of an inward work of grace in regeneration (Mat 28:19-20; Acts 8:36-39; Rom 6:4-5). The Lord's Supper is a memorial of the broken body and the shed blood of the Lord Jesus, to be observed until He comes (Mat 26:26-29; 1Cor 11:23-34). Baptism performed in this church shall be by immersion, upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8:36-39). The Lord's Supper is for all who have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Every person partaking of this ordinance is urged to examine himself, for sickness and even death have come to those who have partaken unworthily (1Cor 11:23-30).
.) Every Christian believer is called unto a life of separation to God from the world, sinful habits, and sinful practices (Rom 12:1-2; Jas 4:4; 1 John 2:15-17; 2Cor 5:17; 6:14). Every true Christian is obligated to witness by deed and word to these truths, to intercede for others in prayer, and to proclaim the Gospel, in so far as is possible, to all the world (Php 1:29; 1Tim 2:1; 1Thes 5:17; Acts 1:8).
.) The finances necessary to conduct the affairs of the church are to be provided by the voluntary giving of members and friends of the church. No money is to be raised in any other way. Tithing and free-will offerings are to be fostered and encouraged (Mal 3:8-10; 1Cor 16:1-2; 2Cor 9:6-7; John 2:13-16).
.) In the light of certain trends today, it seems advisable to more fully define the position of this church. We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at the moment of salvation and unites the believer to the Body of Christ (1Cor 12:13) and that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit (including the gift of tongues) were for the apostolic age and are not to be sought after today (Heb 2:3-4; 1Cor 13:9-10).
